The Maine Crisis Line

The Maine Crisis Line (MCL) is the state’s crisis telephone response service for individuals or families experiencing a behavioral health crisis or having thoughts of suicide and/or self-harm. Trained crisis call specialists answer the line and provide free and confidential telephone support and stabilization 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Behavioral health crises that cannot be resolved over the phone by the MCL and are not an imminent risk are referred to the mobile crisis team in their region. Mobile crisis teams are responders to specially trained to de-escalate mental health crises, assess needs, and provide an appropriate level of care in the least restrictive setting. Mobile crisis teams are dispatched by MCL and respond to the location of the person in crisis.
